July

It’s been a long time since my last post. A recurring theme. I;ve been traveling back and forth across the country in my new job as Aide-de-Camp to an Army Reserve General.

It’s interesting and I’ll do it for about a year before returing to a line Company. Don’t know whether I will return to law school in the fall. I’m considering taking a programming job and trying to transfer into a night program.

Update

So, I’m horrible about updating my blog. I am finishing another Semester at the University of Arkansas Law School. I try to keep up with advances in computing. (Currently, running Windows 7 Build 7100) So here’s my new plan.

1. I will post at least once a week.
2. I will work on updating this site in the next month to be more integrated with my Online Persona.

Back to Benning

We’re back from Panama City beach and headed back to the FOB. Panama City was great. We sat by the ocean, listened to some live bands, ate some great seafood, and one of up even got into a fight. This week we have 10 missons that vest the training we recieved the last 5 weeks and then we will be done with everything but graduation from BOLC II.

End of Another Week

Well, I reach the end of Week 5 at BOLC. This week we focused on MOUT Operations and had a 10 mile ruck march. I also got my pay problem fixed.

This weekend I’m headed to Panama City for some sun and some good food.

Back at the Barracks

We left the FOB at about 0900 this morning and we are conducting recovery operations to get all of our equipment cleaned and turned in. This weekend, I have to work on getting a pay problem fixed (My BAH rate is messed up), but if you haven’t had a pay problem with the Army then you must not have been in very long. It’s just one of those things. Hopefully when DIMHRS gets fielded next year, pay will get better.

Training this week went well. Like I said in an earlier post, it was mostly Infantry skills, probably not my everyday mission as an Engineer but good to know.

This weekend, I plan to relax and stick around Fort Benning and Columbus.

Moving to the FOB

A picture of the inside of the tent.

We moved to the Forward Operating Base (FOB) today at Fort Benning to help simulate life in Iraq and Afghanistan. We live in a huge open bay tent with industrial air-conditioners and 200 beds.

Sort of reminds me of the APOD at Doha.

This week we are going to focus on mounted and dismounted patrols in squads (about 10 or so soldiers) and Platoons (about 40 soldiers). Tomorrow, we have a live fire exercise where one team in a squad will have to flank around and assault from the side. I guess I’ll just have to trust the team providing covering fire will stop firing during the assault.

TTYL,

Weekend Pass

Wow.  I haven’t updated in a long time.  I’ve been at the Army’s Basic Officer Leadership Course (BOLC) Phase II at Fort Benning, GA for the last couple of weeks.  It is a fairly basic course over infantry skills.

Last week we did a night transitioning into day land navigation course, some squad live fire exercises, and fired some of the larger crew served weapons.  I also got feedback on my performance as a squad leader for the previous week.

I promise to try and update more than once every couple of years.
